About the Festival 2023 Poster

This year’s Festival 2023 poster was created by west Michigan-based artist Maggie Clifford-Bandstra.

Her paintings are nature-inspired abstractions, playing with uplifting colors and abstract shapes.  Her work includes hidden symbols emphasizing our human connection to nature and our to reduce anxiety and escape the stresses of everyday life.  As a child, her parents took her to Festival of the Arts, and she fondly remembers spending hours in the Glue-in tent. As a teen, she would wander Festival with friends enjoying the music, food, and friendship.

Clifford-Bandstra graduated in 2021 with an M.F.A. in Painting from Savannah College of Art and Design.  She retired from Hudsonville public schools in 2020.  She is currently an adjunct ceramics Professor at Hope College and works part-time at Ox-Bow School of Art and Artists Residency as the Manager of Retail Programming.

Colleen O'Rourke - Poster Artist

Colleen O’Rourke is a Grand Rapids-based artist and proud Festival brat, whose parents, Tom and Lynne, were longtime Festival volunteers. Colleen is well known for her intricate hand-sewn work with tiny seed beads. Using a simple needle and thread, she transforms the beads beyond their traditional role as adornment, and puts them in the spotlight as a fine art medium. Colleen’s work has been accepted at the Festival Regional Arts Exhibition more than 15 times. Colleen holds the distinction of being the only artist with family members who were also chosen to design the Festival poster: Mom Lynne, in 2002, and brother Kevin, in 1994.
